One Voice for Volusia is a coalition that connects non-profit, governmental and community-based organizations along with local businesses to promote system and community improvements for the benefit of youth and families in Volusia County.  Through research, consensus building and the coordination of resources, One Voice for Volusia takes a leadership role in improving the quality of life for youth and families.

Our Methodology: One Voice for Volusia is using a research, planning and community mobilization framework designed by Drs. Hawkins and Catalano. This model, based on their risk and protective factor research, involves a process that includes:

Convening for the purpose of educating and providing networking opportunities among health and human services

Facilitating impartial and progressive methodologies to positively affect systemic change

Monitoring community trends affecting quality of life issues

Encouraging open dialogue about key community issues

Advocating for the efficient and effective use of community resources

Fostering diverse partnerships among all sectors of the community

Mobilizing the community to support measurable outcomes and an effective evaluation of all health and human services programming

Engaging leaders and citizens by developing and implementing community improvement strategies through priority-setting and consensus building

Collecting, analyzing, interpreting, and sharing indicator data with the community

Supporting other coalitions locally and throughout the state to further the field of work.

Our Goals:   To increase community protective factors and decrease risk factors to reduce:

·            Youth Substance Abuse

·            Juvenile Delinquency

·            Violence

·            Teen Pregnancy

·            School Dropout

Our Mission: Through collaboration One Voice for Volusia mobilizes all sectors of the community by strengthening our organized capacity to meet human needs.

Our Vision: Our Community will provide opportunities for youth and families to be self-sufficient and productive contributors to society.

The History of One Voice for Volusia:   One Voice for Volusia coalition began in 1997 as a juvenile justice initiative to bring together multiple sectors of the community to implement strategies to reduce juvenile delinquency.  As the coalition grew its focus expanded to include not just delinquency, but four other adolescent problem behaviors: substance abuse, violence, school dropout and teen pregnancy.  Utilizing the Community that Care® model for community mobilization, One Voice members developed and implemented strategies across many sectors to decrease community risk factors and increase protective factors.

In 2001, as a result of the increased focus and mission, One Voice for Volusia formed its own non-profit corporation.  One Voice has continued to grow and react to the needs of the community and has become known as a community leader in research as well as the premier source for community data. As an established and trusted resource,  the coalition now mentors other neighboring initiatives and groups and leads the way in studying the process of local funding and planning decisions. By examining best practices and models from throughout the country, One Voice has implemented community efforts to establish a shared vision for local health and human services, which will result in long-term positive changes for the community as a whole.
